Berwick Royal Oak retirement community is looking for a Maintenance Assistant who is reliable, authentic, and excited to make a difference in the lives of people.

Schedule:

Full-Time, Tuesday-Saturday for a total of 37.5 hours per week


Pay:

Staring Wage is $22.16 per hour, (Includes Covid-19 wage subsidy), plus shift differentials if applicable.

Duties:

Reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Responsible for general maintenance and repair of our suites in the retirement community including common and staff areas, parkade and grounds.

These responsibilities include but are not limited to suite rejuvenation and painting, general electrical and plumbing, basic carpentry, grounds clean up, carpet cleaning, general building and equipment repairs, supervision of our Health and Safety and Fire Planning protocols.

Together with the Maintenance Manager will share responsibility for "Emergency Response" and Fire Management for the building and its occupants.

Will review and supervise building security as directed.

Is required to keep current and knowledgeable in the maintenance of our HVAC equipment, sprinkler systems, kitchen equipment, elevators and telephones.

Daily management of our dedicated Preventative Maintenance software solution to track all maintenance requests, sort priorities, assign tasks and record solutions.

Vacation coverage for Maintenance Manager; shares 'on call' and splits weekend coverage with Maintenance Manager.

Locates, engages and supervises suitable contractors to perform major repairs / maintenance to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and other areas as required / or directed by Maintenance Manager.


Qualifications/Experience:


  • A good working knowledge of, and experience in, general repairs, painting, electrical maintenance, safety, operating a variety of equipment, working with cleaning chemicals, carpet cleaning, basic carpentry,
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in the field of maintenance and general repairs;
  • High School completion or equivalent;
  • Valid Emergency Level 1 First Aid Certificate & CPR & AED
  • WHMIS Certification; Valid Driver's License
  • Selfmotivated team player with excellent judgment and interpersonal skills with coworkers, seniors, and the general public;

  • Calm, quick and competent in emergency response situations;
  • Good planning, coordinating, and organization skills;
  • Team player, completes assigned tasks and helps others;
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable speaking to groups; ability to perform as a trainer to groups of staff in critical building systems and safety procedures
  • Good judgment, patient and respectful to others;
  • Friendly and professional demeanour
  • Flexible and adaptable

Note:
*A criminal record check is required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults. Current TB test and proof of Covid-19 Vaccination also required.
