Your opportunity:


Under the general direction of the CAO and working as a part of the Financial Services team, the Financial and Administrative Assistant provides financial support to the Department of the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology department.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Coordinating the recruitment of teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturers and/or stipend instructors
  • Interpreting guidelines to determine the eligibility of graduate students for teaching assistantships
  • Planning and administering expenditures for operating budget
  • Preparing budget variance reports
  • Preparing payroll records for processing
  • Entering salary and/or personnel information in HRIS
  • Reconciling payroll distribution
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent and related financial and administrative experience, preferably in an academic environment
  • Experience in forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial management, accounting principles and policies
  • Experience processing financial and payroll transactions
  • Experience in reconciling accounts and preparing budgets
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, financial information systems (FIS) and human resources information systems (HRIS)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with faculty, and staff and can work in a team environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and solid organizational and problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
