Role
- Improve the quality of life for residents
- Leads by example for other staff members and is able to encourage coworkers to accomplish goals
- Promotes education and provide support to staff
- Assist in the orientation process/ mentoring and coaching new staff members
- Increases the quality of and capacity of clinical student placements, works as a mentor along side the consolidating students and provides feedback of their performance to the student and to the management team.
- Provide a positive highquality experience for students in the home
- Be the touchpoint person for new psws which will help maintain new staff members
- Must be able to Work all home areas as a PSW when not mentoring or assisting with orientation
- As a mentor able to give feedback in a respectful manner and work with the preceptee to improve their practice.
Qualities:
- Strong leadership qualities which include: honest, strong communication skills, confidence, positive attitude, and ability to inspire
- Able to provide education/inservices/huddles to coworkers
- Must have a vision for improving and enhancing programs in the home
- Possess a drive, a passion and commitment to achieve goals within the home and necessary skills to achieve those goals.

- Easy to talk to and have effective listening skills
- Willing to educate themselves through professional development opportunities, inservices, and training sessions
Must have an excellent attendance record
Within one month of hire needs to complete the PREP course (Preceptor Resource and Education Program in Long Term Care home)
