Support the work of the Community Standards Branch and its various Officers through call evaluation, dispatch and coordination of work assignments.

The Community Standards Peace Officer Section is seeking a self-motivated individual who can provide a high level of customer service.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Evaluate calls, dispatch and coordinate jobs/assignments to enforcement staff including Community Standards Peace Officers, Municipal Enforcement Officers, Park Rangers, Animal Control Officers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, etc.
  • Screen, evaluate, record telephone inquiries and create dispatch records. When appropriate, forward information to the Community Standards Officers for action
  • Interpret and explain department regulations and procedures to the general public
  • Generate warning letters and other correspondence related to Bylaw offenses
  • Adjust and maintain legal documentation, statistics and records
  • Enter notes, comments and information into a database for officer support when investigating complaints (Access or POSSE)
  • Keep abreast of changes to regulations and procedures
  • Support officers in the field with officer safety protocols, manage GPS and other safety programs and help provide research and data for officers to use in the field
  • Perform related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of High School
  • 5 years experience in a customercentric service role supplemented with business experience, including a minimum of 2 years related and relevant experience
  • Experience interpreting and explaining legislation, regulations and/or bylaws, related policies and procedures is required
  • Must be an effective communicator when responding to public inquiries and complaints
  • A certificate or diploma in Emergency Communications and Response is an asset
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, Google Suite Access, SAP and POSSE
  • Radio Dispatch training is an asset
  • Ability to make sound decisions independently according to policies and procedures
  • Strong ability to handle a high volume of work under time constraints
  • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills and flexibility in performing diverse activities
  • Strong communication, organization and prioritization skills are required
  • Knowledge of applicable City of Edmonton bylaws and applicable Provincial legislation
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
