The Opportunity


The City of Grande Prairie, RCMP Department, is currently seeking a Jail Guard, you must have the ability to work as part of a team.

You must have basic computer skills and knowledge. This position will be working shifts as 24 hour coverage is required, including weekends and Statutory Holidays. You must have the ability to multitask, as this environment is very busy and multiple duties occur simultaneously. You must be able to deal with interruptions and immediate demands from others in the work environment.


Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Electronically/ Physically document, store, monitor, and distribute medications for prisoners, as required.
  • Assist RCMP members with the electronic "booking in/booking out" process via Prisoner Booking Tool (PAT).
  • Electronically/ Physically document all prisoner movements (Lawyer call, Interview, Court, Transport, etc.).
  • Complete, ensure accuracy and send paperwork required for prisoner transport /court appearances (Sheriff Transport Request forms, correct legal documents).
  • Complete, ensure accuracy and send paperwork required for prisoner Teleconferences (Teleconference request forms, correct legal documents).
  • Record Physical checks digitally Via Prisoner Booking Tool (PAT).
  • Ensure clear, comprehensive, and factual notes are recorded daily, these may be used in court.
  • Manage, organize, and ensure accuracy of all physical and electronic documents for each prisoner in custody.
  • Complete weekly food orders for cells, and ensure the accuracy of the order when it arrives.

Welfare of Prisoners:

  • Monitor the health and welfare of prisoners through both video and physical checks.
  • Alert the RCMP Sargent of any threats to prisoner health and welfare.
  • Inform the RCMP Sargent of any prisoners requiring medical assistance.
  • Prepare and provide food for prisoners.
  • Secure prisoner belongings.
  • Inform RCMP Sargent of prisoners needing phone calls or other concerns.
  • Operate the Detachment's computerized prisoner booking tool (PAT).
  • Ensure the cells are cleaned.

Hours
Shift Work: 11-hour shifts, Days/Nights/Weekends/Holidays.


Compensation
Starting Salary $26.43 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement (B Band, Entry Step).
