Reporting to the Manager, Development & Urban Design, provide professional planning advice on various land use planning matters.
Responsibilities
- Duties include collecting, researching and analyzing data related to assigned projects
- Preparing reports and attending meetings, if assigned, of the Committee of Adjustment
- Providing testimony at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) hearings regarding planning matters, drafting and interpreting reports, agreements and bylaws
- Liaising with staff, other departments, outside agencies and consultants
- Responding to inquiries from the public, development industry, landowners, councilors and staff
- Interpreting legislation, City policies, bylaws and agreements
- Assisting in and providing witness evidence as necessary at tribunals
- Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Knowledge and skills normally associated with the completion of a four year Bachelor's Degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning (or related discipline), plus a minimum of one year relevant professional planning experience (preferably at the municipal level); or have the equivalent combination of formal education and relevant experience
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
- Welldeveloped interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Strong research, analytical and reasoning skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and adaptive to changing circumstances
- Possess a working knowledge of provincial/regional planning legislation that affect the City
- Eligibility for full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred
- Ability to provide own transportation as required
- This position is eligible for hybrid work
