About the Role:


You will contribute by:

The following is an outline of some but not all of the primary functions and responsibilities for this position:

  • Leading editorial discussions and assign staff to stories.
  • Helping with training and development of team members.
  • Producing and line up rundowns.
  • Writing, editing, and producing packaged and live segments.
  • Working with teams to determine editorial direction and content of newscasts.
  • Developing and implement new work processes.
  • Being the first point of contact for issues and concerns related to Global News Morning.
  • Vettting scripts as needed.
  • Leading and guiding Global News Morning staff while supporting other members of the newsroom.
  • Working with affiliates and other platforms to coordinate coverage and resources.
  • Ability to plan and produce special event and breaking news coverage.
  • Regularly reviewing and providing feedback to staff including writing style, story structure, use of sound, graphics and video.
  • Conducting regular sessions with the team to inform, educate and celebrate success.
  • Conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Communicating and model Corus Values.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in broadcast journalism or a related field.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in television broadcasting, including control room experience.
  • A natural leader and effective communicator.
  • Highly motivated, organized, innovative and able to make quick and effective decisions under pressure.
  • Passionate about journalism, especially local news.
  • Strong news writing skills.
  • Understanding of the MMC workflow a strong asset.
  • Excellent news judgement.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing and other TV production skills.
  • Positive, cando attitude, proven track record of accountability.
  • Valid driver's licence and a clear driving record is required.
