Reporting to the program manager, the Youth Specialist will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing counselling support and interactive programming to clients between the ages of 16-24 who are at risk of homelessness and live in a transitional housing program.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide informal counselling supports to promote positive health and independency in the community
  • Act as role model to facilitate physical, emotional, and intellectual growth
  • Act as a primary worker providing specialized case management and community outreach services to a case load
  • Work in partnership with community agencies to coordinate support services
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of residency plan and goals
  • Assist in developing and maintaining individual skill building daily living and social skills necessary to obtain independency in the community
  • Residential tasks
  • Monitor safety and wellbeing of youth residing in program
  • Develop and facilitate programming
  • Utilize crisis deescalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors
  • Understand and be able to integrate a philosophy of strength based and clientcentered care into daily responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP's Mission and Values
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and records are kept and ensure that statistical information is maintained as per agency and privacy standards
  • Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework
  • Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in Social Services, Child and Youth Care, or equivalent
- +2 years experience supporting Youth and/or the homeless population

  • Previous experience working at a nonprofit agency
  • Knowledge of MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Valid Certification in First Aid & CPR
  • Training in ASIST and CPI

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:


  • Hours are typically Saturday and Sunday, rotating shifts of 8am4:30pm and 3:30pm12am
  • Average amount of physical effort is required.
  • Required to work statutory holidays
  • Able to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
  • Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
  • Vehicle travel to sites for visits/walkthroughs and open doors as required.
