The Housekeeping/Linen department at St.

Thomas Elgin General Hospital is responsible for properly maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the Hospital that is in line with infection control regulations.

Our services are provided in an efficient, timely and safe manner for patients, staff and visitors.


The Cleaner will perform assigned duties in accordance with the departmental standards of practice, policies and procedures and may be assigned to any area of the Hospital as may be required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of one (1) year Housekeeping experience preferably in Hospital cleaning procedures and methods, with an understanding of infectious diseases and their transfers.
  • Preference will be given to those who have completed Safe Management training
  • Experience with Housekeeping equipment (eg. Rotary, Burnisher, Shower Scrubber, Auto scrubber, Carpet/Upholstery extractor, wet vacuum, and other floor maintenance equipment, etc.)
  • Experience with floor finishing procedures (eg. Floor stripping, wax, diamond pads, crystallizer, carper extraction, buffing stray, etc.
  • Computer skills to include the regular use of Outlook, order entry software, Risk Monitor Pro, Internet/Intranet navigation including STEGHnet, basic word processing.
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS, Infection Control, Health and Safety, Patient Centered Care and Waste Management Protocols
  • Team and customer focused with the ability to communicate respectfully in a pleasant, flexible and professional manner with all patients, families, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in assignment throughout a shift, follow instructions and conduct yourself professionally.
  • Open to change and is proactive to departmental initiatives.
  • Ability to work alone, prioritize and take initiative selfmotivated.
  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties.
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH's Attendance at Work Program required
  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record in alignment with STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct
