Job Summary:


The Waste Management Team Lead will assist with coordination of daily activities of landfill area at the Halton Waste Management Site, including planning daily disposal locations, staffing and other activities.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Schedules staff needs, including Leadhand when Team Lead not working or offsite.
  • Operates various types of heavy equipment, including dozer, compactor, loader, backhoe, water truck and forklift. Will be required to perform snow plowing & salting using a pickup truck and/or loader. Working knowledge of operation of small equipment, such as weed whipper, mower, and odour control system.
  • Monitors contract operations and compliance, such as soil movement & placement, road repairs and temporary road & pad construction, bird/traffic control, general site maintenance.
  • Assists with ensuring MECP Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs) and other rules & regulations are met to ensure the landfill is operating within requirements. Issue violation notices as necessary.
  • Assists with fill plan development (e.g. annual, seasonal).
  • Assists with tender and other purchasing document preparation and project management.
  • Trains and mentors other operations staff.
  • Responds to emergencies and customer & contractor inquiries, complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:


Essential

  • College Diploma or certificate in heavy equipment operation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a landfill and/or heavy equipment (e.g landfill compactor, dozer, frontend loader, backhoe, and water truck).
  • Possess and maintain valid class DZ Ontario driver's license.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations including Ministry of Environment, Conservation & Parks (MECP), Operational Health & Safety Act, Construction Regulations and other related environmental legislation.
  • Computer aptitude in MS Office and GPS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An equivalent of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred

  • Heavy equipment certification and SWANA's Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification.
  • Supervisory and project management skills.
