The bigger picture

We're seeking an experienced Managing Director to lead Conexus Venture Capital's fund management, directing its investment strategy in the best interests of its stakeholders.

This role will serve as a key brand ambassador for both Conexus and its Funds under management, someone who is a recognized thought leader in innovation, entrepreneurship and early stage investing.

How you'll be spending your time

Brand ambassador: introduce and represent the Conexus brand and its managed Funds at public and private events, to promote the Funds and the larger start up ecosystem locally and regionally.

Sector intelligence: generate relevant sector thought leadership in start ups and tech, highlighting evolving market needs, investment themes, potential new business models, disruptive innovation, and key players to be considered when evaluating investments

Canadian tech ecosystem development: develop and knit a strong fabric of mentors, sponsors, venture capital investors, incubators, accelerators, advisors, corporate partners, and other key participants for the benefit of the sector as a whole.

Deal flow creation: jointly create and drive deal flow and the recruitment of new break-out companies who are positioned to change the Saskatchewan tech landscape.

Deal screening, selection, diligence and decision-making: lead a small but multidisciplinary team to rigorously assess, analyze, structure, negotiate, and close investments with founders and co-investors.

Portfolio support: actively nurture and monitor the post-close growth and performance of founders and their portfolio companies through coaching, mentoring, strategy development, recruiting, and sound governance. Partner with businesses to evaluate and structure strategic collaborations and commercial agreements.

Fund management: nurture LP relations; communicate investment recommendations in the best interests of LPs based on Fund mandate, strategy and fit analysis, due diligence, valuation, negotiations, assessment of key risks, and other relevant matters.

Team development: display influential leadership with colleagues and portfolio company management teams fostering a collaborative culture.

Future funds: lead the Fund's future fundraising efforts with institutions, fund-of-funds, strategic corporates, and government entities,.

The experience you bring

A true operator, not just a theorist.
Proven leadership and innovation experience in the tech sector, supplemented by strong track record in investment banking, consulting, private equity, venture capital, or an active corporate development group.
Entrepreneurial empathy previous founder experience an asset; preferably been through failure and successful startups.
Postsecondary education in commerce, computer science, engineering or a related discipline. MBA, CFA, and/or CBV certainly desirable; but, more importantly, show us what you've done and what you can do.
Creative mindset to unstructured problems.

Salary Range:

$136,990 - $195,700 with 25% Short Term Incentive Target
