This position provides project management services for small and medium size projects for the Workers Compensation Board (WCB).


Job Duties:

Manages tactical projects for small and medium initiatives, from initial conception to final implementation


This will include:

developing a plan, creating and obtaining approval of Project Charters, assigning tasks and project staff, ensuring user involvement and commitment, leading regular project reviews to deal with project issues, monitoring and approving projects at each progressive phase, reviewing and reporting on project status, issues and priorities, planning, budgets, risk and quality management and deciding on carrying out corrective action, as necessary.


Provides leadership, guidance, direction and support to project teams; participates in the recruitment and selection of new staff for the project; provides training and development to team members; assigns workload; coordinates, authorizes and maintains vacation and overtime with the functional manager, provides input into performance reviews and identifies development/training needs; and ensures quality and time service standards are met.

Participates in the selection and use of external contractors.

This includes the preparation/analysis of requests for proposals, the overall management of the contractor, ensuring that the assignment meets all contractual services, processing of invoices and release of contractor.

Fosters and maintains strong relationships with those involved in varying aspects relating to the successful outcome of each project.

Provides focus on the "people support" required to address the impact of change on each staff and stakeholder (internal/external) by the project.

Knowledge of change management methodologies is required.


Assists in the establishment, implementation and improvement of project management standards including but not limited to project management methodologies, terminology, templates and reporting.

Establishes and maintains risk management, schedule control, quality control and scope change control processes.


Maintains current knowledge by performing research and discussing current trends with other Project Management Professionals within the community and their possible applicability to the WCB; liases with other Workers Compensation Boards, public agencies and other organizations, in order to share information related to trends, methods, processes, current practices etc.

Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education and training, literature reviews, workshops, seminars, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Two (2) year diploma in Business Administration or Information Technology or a University degree in Business Administration or Computer Science

Project Management Professional (PMP) designation

Minimum seven (7) years of direct practical experience working in a project management environment including a minimum two (2) years' experience managing or leading information technology projects

Advanced proficiency in the use of personal computer and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project) in a Windows environment

Excellent problem solving and analytical ability

Superior written and verbal communication skills

Ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders in confrontational situations

Ability to lead project teams and motivate team members

Ability to organize and prioritize workload under pressure within tight deadlines

Ability to work independently and in a team environment
