The Child Welfare Branch receives reports and is often called on to provide briefing material, advice and recommendations to ministry decision makers regarding the most serious and high profile child welfare cases in the province of British Columbia.


This position supports development and implementation of the ministry's accountability, quality assurance, performance improvement, and practice change efforts, with particular focus on special reviews of compelling provincial child welfare matters, aggregate and systemic analysis of quality assurance data, and support for quality assurance audits.

Special reviews of child welfare matters include focused, in-depth examination of information regarding individual cases and may identify practice concerns that may result in revoking and/or changes in delegated authority.


Job Requirements:


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, in the Social Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience providing quantitative and qualitative research and conducting data analysis using research methodologies.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience managing data (e.g., building data sets, linking or combing data sets, cleaning data etc.), analyzing/summarizing data, and presenting findings (e.g., graphs, tables, dashboards and written summaries of complex findings and/or data etc.).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in managing projects and/or project components.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using Microsoft Excel (e.g., sorting and filtering data, using functions and formulas, creating pivot tables and graphs etc.)
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Master's Degree in the Social Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience providing quantitative and qualitative research and conducting data analysis.
  • 3 years of experience in analyzing and evaluating practice and program performance.
  • 3 years of experience in managing projects and/or project components.
  • Experience with MCFD services, policies, and information management systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Experience in designing and conducting program evaluations.

About this Position:

This position can be based in any Ministry of Children and Family Development office.
