YMCA Camp Pine Crest, Torrance, Ontario (Transportation to camp is available at the beginning and end of the summer)

Work Hours:
Must be available to work 6 days a week between Monday - Sunday, with days off predetermined by supervisor

YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education provides outdoor experiences that promote personal growth and foster a sense of community. Participants leave with increased confidence, independence, and new friendships.

YMCA Camp Pine Crest, situated amidst Muskoka wilderness, includes 650 acres bordered by 3 connected lakes, offering 26km of hiking trails, 7,500 sq. ft. of dock space, and 60 buildings.

The Dietary Cook role involves meal preparation and consideration for dietary restrictions within the camp community, ensuring a clean and healthy kitchen environment according to health regulations.

In this position, you will:

  • Prepare and serve camp meals efficiently and enjoyably with the kitchen team
  • Maintain high food safety standards, ensuring compliance among team members
  • Assist in kitchen cleanliness and dishwashing
  • Foster relationships with camp members, staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Accommodate various dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, celiac, allergies, etc.
  • Attend all relevant trainings and meetings, actively contributing to staff development
  • Uphold Health & Safety guidelines and cleanliness standards
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants and staff, embodying YMCA values
  • Perform other assigned duties

  • Proficiency in YMCA Competencies such as Accountability, Relationship-Building, and Team Leadership

You should possess:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen/hospitality setting
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C, and Food Handler Certificate upon employment
  • Familiarity with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Experience with food allergies and dietary needs
  • Authorization to work full-time in Canada
  • Strong multitasking and adaptability skills
  • Organizational and detail-oriented capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
  • Mentorship and feedback delivery abilities
