Description

This position is responsible for managing Ideal Roofing's fleet assets and managing the distribution of product to our customer in accordance with the company's ISO standards.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Equipment:


  • Manage all fleet assets including a fleet of 90 trucks and trailers, forklifts and company vehicles.
  • Manage the service and preventative maintenance program to ensure cost effectiveness and minimize distribution disruptions.
  • Elevate the fleet appearance and branding to enforce and reflect the company's standards.
  • Manage and coordinate the appropriate registration and licensing of all vehicles while maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Leads and manages the dispatch team and a unionized work force comprised of maintenance staff and drivers as well as contracted services.
  • Review all car and truck accidents and deal with insurance.

Finance and Compliance:


  • Manages the budget and is accountable for ensuring the cost effective and efficient delivery of products to customers from Newfoundland to Alberta and throughout the United States.
  • Ensure all licensing requirements are met and that all safety certificates are current and up to date for all vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with all Provincial & Federal transportation regulations as well as those in the USA
  • Keep the Dispatch team abreast of developing situations that may require their attention and share relevant information with them at the earliest opportunity to ensure consistent practices and actions.
  • Evaluate and assess need for additional brokerage for excess runs and negotiate contracts for services.
  • Responsible for C-TPAT and all required compliance and training.
  • Decipher problems versus complaints and offer relevant solutions and options to the Executive and Senior Management.
  • Monitor and manage all CVOR's.
  • Manage cost of resources by monitoring payroll prepared by Dispatch.
  • Responsible for the overall safety of all equipment and employees through compliance with Health & Safety policies and applicable legislation.
  • Responsible reviewing and keeping the Driver Handbook uptodate at all times and ensuring distribution and communication of contents to all drivers (existing and new).

Human Resources Management:


  • Contribute to the overall team approach to consistently work together to meet customer needs, requirements, specifications and expectations.
  • Manage garage and equipment maintenance staff and provide direction including distribution of work.
  • Arrange for all special passes for 417, tickets taken by cameras.
  • Collaborate with various colleagues to modify daily assignments in order to accommodate the needs of customers.
  • Lead the team in problem resolution and motivate positive and constructive feedback and exchange of ideas aimed at consistently improving customer service.
  • Communicate with all departments and at all levels of the organization including the Quebec office, Brampton plant and New Brunswick plant regarding fleet and equipment related issues and needs.
  • Lead the recruitment process in collaboration with Dispatch.
  • Responsible for keeping records, monitoring driver daily log hours for errors or violations and monitoring drivers' working hours and equipment availability.
  • Foster an environment of positive employee relations and employee involvement.
  • Review Dispatch recommendations for appropriate and timely employment and performance actions when needed, including disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Perform other related duties.

Administration:


  • Prepare all documentation for shipments via FedEx, Purolator and other couriers.
  • Keep fuel spreadsheet up to date and update kilometers in JJKeller for maintenance tracking
  • Prepare list of trucks due for service and coordinate with Dispatch for scheduled servicing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 35 years progressive transportation/logistics management experience
  • Experience managing equipment costs and budgets
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and in the interpretation and administration of collective agreements
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and US trucking, transportation and driving laws, rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with US and Canadian Customs
  • Ability to communicate clearly in French and English both spoken and written.
