    SAIT's Facilities Management department serves as steward of its building and grounds, ensuring physical operations are maintained and that spaces are safe, secure, functional and inviting for all who use them.

    Reporting to the Director of Planning, Design and Projects, the Manager of Projects will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing construction projects and managing and mentoring SAIT project managers and coordinators for SAIT across various campuses in Calgary.

    This role requires a seasoned construction professional with strong leadership skills, project management expertise, and a deep understanding of construction processes.

    This role will also involve managing external project managers and project teams, building relationships with external stakeholders, and collaborating with internal planning and design teams, operations and maintenance teams in addition to integrated facilities management partners.

    The Manager will act as SAIT's representative to numerous industry partners, capital project stakeholders, consultants and contractors and is ultimately accountable for the project team's deliverables, including accuracy and efficiencies of overall project execution, and assist in internal FM procedural development within the Facilities Management department.

    Projects within a program portfolio can range from Level 1 small, in-house projects, to Level 2 mid-size multimillion-dollar contract projects.

    The Manager will review on-going resource opportunities and leveling to ensure the appropriate amount of external contract project support is managed and recovered as capital budgets change.

    The incumbent will also collaborate with the Manager, Planning and Design, to refine Project planning and initiation processes and guide projects transitions from strategic planning to timely execution.

    This position is for a Maternity cover ending August 31, 2025.
    Planning and Strategy
    Integrate vision, strategy and implementation plans in alignment with SAIT's 5-year strategic plan.

    Participate in stakeholder meetings and develop strategies to refine FM Project procedures in an effort to improve and streamline FM services across the institute, meeting institutional and FM strategic priorities.

    Act as SME to the FM working groups and their clients, advise on constructability and as-built conditions of ongoing projects to inform future project planning and design.

    Participate in developing FM's strategic vision including strategy and content support of foundational governance Campus Master
    Execute Strategic Planning, Lifecycle Asset Management, Sustainable Engagement and Resource framework documentation.

    Provide planning and design support to define projects in conjunction with other SAIT stakeholders and assist FM Directors in preparing annual capital budget planning and reporting as required.

    Project Management
    Lead a team of Construction Project Managers in the timely planning, executing, and completing of construction projects.
    Oversee all construction-related matters, communicate with internal and external stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

    Assess current processes, make recommendations, and operationalize governance capabilities in line with business objectives to enhance project management effectiveness within Facilities Management and Major Capital Planning.

    Establish Project Management Methodology and strategies (based on defined framework) and ensure compliance to best practices.
    Guide the creation all the templates for Project Management Deliverables, training documents, libraries for Project documentation.

    Oversee the work of internal and external Project managers in ensuring that comprehensive project records are maintained, including documentation of project milestones, expenditures, and reports in alignment with SAIT's objectives and standards.

    Resource Control and Monitoring
    Collaborate with Finance and Procurement teams to develop project budgets, ensure cost control and efficient resource allocation.
    Oversee the financial aspects of construction projects, identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-effective solutions.
    Collaborate with Operations Management regarding planning and execution of Capital Maintenance funding program.
    Partner with HSE Safety teams to ensure safety protocols and risk mitigation strategies are implemented.

    Work with internal planning and design teams to ensure that construction projects align with SAIT's vision and design guidelines.

    Work with SAIT Procurement teams to manage construction contracts, including procurement, negotiation, and vendor selection.
    Review and approve contract documents including CCDC and work authorizations, change orders, and payment requests.
    Support employees throughout their employment lifecycle (hiring, training, mentoring, performance development and offboarding)
    Ensure intentional Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) focused decision making.
    Education and Networking

    Participate in SAIT's capital project and space planning committees to support the long-term vision and goals of the Institution.

    Participate in networking activities including project award identification and application, conference presentations.

    Build relationships with SAIT faculty and students, provide guest lectures/ workshops, educate and provide learning opportunities to create awareness and overall visibility towards facilities management matters on campus.

    Participate in Industry networking including tours, presentations and associated preparation, media interviews and support to raise profile of facilities management issues on campus.

    University Degree in the field of architecture, engineering, interior design or construction project management.

    Preferred third party certification in facilities, architectural or construction related sustainable designation including LEED, BOMA, WELL, IFMA-SFP, CEM, etc.

    High Proficiency in MS Office 365, Archibus; Minimum seven (7+) years working experience in project management role, with clear understanding of design and construction practices and methodology, for large complex project delivery and partnerships.

    Minimum four (4) years in supervisory role with proven experience in people and change management.
    Experience managing multiple, concurrent projects up to $10 Million+.
    ability to evaluate and make decisions regarding quality of design and construction work.
    Solid track record or mentoring and delegating to a large team of general contractors, contractors and in-house resources.
    Manage simultaneous, emergent projects while steering dynamically through systems and design thinking.
    Excellent people skills including experience in organization change management, leading communication and engagement, and building highly effective teams.

    High degree of project planning including able to scope, task and itemize project work plans, sequencing, scheduling and associated costs.
