Manager

Nursing Resource Unit (NRU)

Position Description
Reporting to the Senior Director, Clinical Services, the CAMH Nursing Resource Unit is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Manager.

Working closely with the ED/Inpatient Managers, After Hours Site Administrators and Human Resources, the Manager, NRU is responsible for leadership of the inter-professional team including nursing, allied health, administrative staff, new graduates trainees and clinical externs.

The manager will build a strong and effectively integrated staffing and scheduling process involving the resource unit operations to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, and enable leadership to assess, plan and make decisions for the purpose of improving staff utilization, and help to ensure that units have the right staffing levels and qualified staff to perform their work.

The Manager will ensure safe operations and will promote and facilitate the vision and philosophy of care for the patients at CAMH.

The Manager will represent the department both within CAMH and with external stakeholders as required and achieve excellence in all aspects of service delivery on both a strategic and operational level.


Daily operational activities include maintaining availability rosters and scheduling of appropriate staff; managing human resources, including recruitment, orientation and performance management, as well as team planning, development, and evaluation.

The Manager will also support a strong academic mandate for the department, which includes a focus on both the educational experience of trainees, and the ongoing professional development of staff.

In collaboration with the Nurse Educator(s) and Extern Coordinator, you will be responsible for the identification and development of educational requirements and transitional supports for staff, new graduate trainees and externs, providing supervision to members of the clinical team, and implementing evidence based practices.

You will develop and support a culture of safety and quality.

You will be required to support budget planning and monitoring, track NRU metrics and utilization, facilitate the implementation of the CAMH Strategic Plan, and participate in planning and project work, as needed.

You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and be resolution-focused.

You may also be called upon to participate in and represent Management in negotiations with Bargaining Agents and must be familiar with collective agreements.

Please Note:
This full-time, permanent position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
