Position Summary:

Health Research BC is a relatively small organization. We take a team-based approach to achieving success across all communications disciplines. Specialists are expected to support multiple areas of practice and this role will focus on
research programs communications.

The Manager, Communications provides strategic oversight for this area and will assign priorities to ensure internal client and external facing priorities are achieved.


The specialist is part of a communications team that plays a critical role in creating and implementing communications plans that engage and expand target audiences, and demonstrate outcomes and impacts of our programs to position Michael Smith Health Research BC as a leader in BC's life sciences sector.

The specialist provides communications leadership, advice and support to various teams and portfolios to accomplish the organization's goals and objectives.


Key Responsibilities:


Research programs communications

  • Serves as communications lead for portfolios of work as assigned by the manager. This requires proactive strategic communications expertise, critical thinking, relationship building and collaboration with internal teams.
  • Creates and implements communications plans and projects that promote the value and impact of research and innovation supported by Health Research BC. This includes developing key messaging in line with brand voice as well as researching, writing, editing and curating content for internal and external communications collateral.
  • Uses strategic storytelling to showcase the impact of the organization and utilizes brand journalism that positions Health Research BC as a leader in BC's life sciences sector.
  • Provides communications expertise to internal assigned clients that ensures coordinated efforts and strategic alignment across the organization. Produces content that advances organizational strategic directions and priorities.
  • Collaborates with the digital communications team to execute related communications campaigns and tactics aligned with organization goals and objectives. Ensures equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and the principles of Indigenous reconciliation are represented in all strategies, campaigns and

Requirements:


  • A postsecondary degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related
  • Four years' experience in a communications Work experience in a research, notforprofit or health care setting an asset.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to write in a variety of styles for a range of audiences to translate complicated scientific concepts into interesting and engaging content. Excellent editing and proofreading skills, with an impeccable eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with creating and implementing strategic and tactical communications plans, including delivering on a variety of tactics (such as videos, social media, enewsletters, etc.).
  • Excellent computer skills including demonstrated seniorlevel proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and apps.
  • Project management experience, including responsibility for developing project plans and timelines,
