The Veterinary Technician Supervisor at the VSCAN will direct, plan, coordinate and perform a variety of duties related to the Technical/Medical area.

The Veterinary Technician Supervisor trains, supervises and assists technicians to plan, coordinate and perform a variety of duties concerned with patient health, client education, and to promote The VSCAN.

In this position they are directly responsible for all members of the veterinary technician team, while also encompassing all the duties of the veterinary technician.

The Veterinary Technician Supervisor is a role model for other team members. The Veterinary Technician Supervisor will be reporting to the Practice Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Mentor, encourage, train, supervise and evaluate Technical team members following practice norms and policies
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Coordinator and Practice Manager in hiring and on/offboarding process
  • Scheduling Veterinary Technicians including creating schedules and managing absences
  • Organise and oversee initial and ongoing training for Technicians develop, setup, deliver and coordinate
  • Mediate interpersonal problems, address concerns from Technicians and assist with conflict resolution
  • Conduct regular check in 1on1 sessions with Technicians
  • Assist with performance reviews
  • Work with Practice Manager to handle issues related to disciplinary action and followthrough
  • Organise Technician meetings preparation of agenda, meeting minutes
  • Coordinate workflow for: imaging, treatments, appointments, patient discharges
  • Participate in the development of new services, procedures and processes related to hospital operations in/or interfacing with the Technical/Medical area
  • Oversee completion of Technicians' daily tasks and assign tasks to perform during quiet times
  • Work with the anesthesiologist and neurology clinicians to coordinate case flow for the day
  • Perform Technician responsibilities such as organize daily procedure board, conduct anesthetic procedures, perform treatments for inhospital patients, collaborate with doctors on various cases, take radiographs, surgery prep, assist during and postsurgery, complete needed sheets, IV catheter placement and fluid therapy, prep medication, update invoices, closing clinic procedures
Skills and Knowledge

  • Graduated from a recognized Veterinary Technician/Technology program
  • Minimum 45 years of experience as a Vet Tech
  • Minimum 12 years of experience as a Lead Vet Tech or similar position
  • Experience using Avimark or similar veterinary software
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Has the ability to effectively solve problems dealing with staff conflict to personnel issues and performance. Has the ability to direct, guide and assist a group of individuals
  • Good organization skills and selfstarter
  • Passionate about providing compassionate care to clients, patients, and teammates
