    Description

    We're on the lookout for a Senior Civil Designer to become part of our expanding Canadian Operations. To thrive in this role, you need a minimum of 8-10 years of civil design experience using Civil3D in rail, stations, and transportation projects, including multi-modal corridors (LRT/BRT). The Senior Civil Designer will collaborate closely with other team members, regional leads across Ontario, Canada, North America, and GHD's global network.

    Working alongside a dynamic and high-performance team, this role provides a diverse range of tasks and will involve:

    • Preparing civil drawings and details from initial concept to final design in a 3D modeling environment like Civil 3D, following established standards and procedures for various sites, including linear utility modeling, site grading, site servicing plan modeling/design, road and rail corridor design and modeling, and transit stations.
    • Driving design phases and enforcing design standards on complex rail, transit, and linear infrastructure projects.
    • Reviewing and creating models and drawings in collaboration with Engineers to develop detailed drawings, quantities, and other supporting documents.
    • Engaging in different procurement strategies like Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build environments to advance civil design packages.
    • Mentoring and supervising junior and developing Technicians.
    • Following the BIM Execution Plan and BIM project requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Offering support and training to junior and developing Techs on Civil 3D and project BIM standards and procedures.
    • Following GHD BIM standards and procedures and ensuring compliance at the project level.
    • Providing input on BIM scope, schedule, and budget when necessary.
    • Conducting quantity take-offs.
    • Producing consistent, high-quality civil deliverables.
    • Communicating regularly with civil leads, designers, and project team members to ensure effective and timely flow of project information to meet deadlines.
    • Participating, as needed, in enhancing GHD Standard Civil/Transportation Details and BIM Standards, including advocating for changes, mentoring on tool and method updates, assisting with training development, and conducting lessons learned sessions.

    What you'll bring to the team:

    • Technician/Technologist with a Civil Engineering Technology diploma and a background in Civil Engineering.
    • 8 to 10 years of experience in civil design, drafting, and modeling.
    • Demonstrated expertise in site grading, site servicing, drainage, and access road design using Civil 3D software.
    • Extensive experience with the corridor and pipe network module in Civil 3D.
    • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills.
    • High proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
    • Knowledge of Bentley software such as Microstation and OpenRoads, as well as other tools like Navisworks, Dynamo, and REVIT.
    • Experience in Metrolinx and rail corridor modeling grading design.
    • Ability to perform complex design tasks in multidisciplinary environments, collaborating with team members from various disciplines.
    • Experience in quality control (QA/QC) of models and drawings to ensure standards compliance and discipline coordination.
    • Understanding the level of effort needed to complete tasks.
    • Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and good interpersonal abilities.
    • Expertise in BIM Collaboration tools such as ProjectWise and BIM 360.
    • Effective communication skills for teamwork and teaching project teams about BIM/CAD best practices.
    • Capability to engage with external entities to interpret BIM/CAD requirements and scope.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously within a team setting.
    • Aptitude to work under tight deadlines.
