RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre.

Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.

The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary

Under the general supervision of the Hematology/Oncology Division Head, the incumbent retrieves, collects, abstracts and codes all the clinical information on all cancer cases.

General Duties

  • Codes all diagnoses and procedures according to the principles of the ICD-O, SEER Staging, Multiple Primary and Histology Coding Rules and FORDS after thorough review of medical records for consistency and quality,
  • Abstracts and enters required information into the CYP-C Electronic Data Entry System from diagnosis until 5 year post diagnosis or until the contract is completed,
  • Electronically transfers a deidentified data file for cases entered in the CYP-C Electronic Data Entry System on a quarterly basis,
  • Prepares and submits quarterly reports to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) detailing what works have been done on this contract during the past quarter, how many cases have been registered and how many have been completed for CYP-C, by year of diagnosis,
  • Extracts and enters data with registries involving oncogenomics and precision medicine,
  • Monitors and submits ethical approvals, amendments, renewals and project contracts in a timely manner,
  • Performs accounting functions such as monitoring expenditures. Prepares and submits invoices,
  • Performs any other project duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor,

Education / Experience

  • Able to work independently with little supervision,
  • Sense of responsibility,
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times,
  • Demonstrates an attention to detail,
  • Respect of deadlines,
  • Fluent in French & English, spoken and written,
  • Very good knowledge of computer softwares,
  • Good knowledge of other Cancer Registry software,
  • Diploma in Medical Records from a school recognized from the ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport,
  • Certified Tumour Registrar (CTR) or AEC Registre des tumeurs, an asset,
  • Active member of NCRA (National Cancer Registrars Association), an asset,
  • Active member of the Association Québécoise des Registraires en Oncologie (AQRO), an asset,
Additional information


Status:
Temporary, part-time (21 hours/week) (renewable contract)


Pay Scale:
$22.65 -$42.06/hour


Work Shift:
Flexible schedule between 8:30a.m. to 16:30p.m., Monday to Friday


Work Site:
The Montreal Children's Hospital, Haematology/Oncology Division
