Under the direction of the Director, Student Engagement, and working collaboratively with professional staff, students, and faculty members across the UTM campus and the University, the Student Engagement Coordinator, Transition Programs assumes primary responsibility for new student program development and delivery aimed at supporting student success and retention during transition.

The cornerstone programs of this portfolio includes LAUNCH, a first-year peer mentorship program with an internship component for upper year students and Parent & Student Supporters Programming.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Planning and implementing components of cocurricular programs and activities
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Advising students on cocurricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program
  • Coordinating the recruitment process and training of casual staff

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or Social Sciences or other relevant degree with experience.
  • Minimum four years of student development programming experience specifically in postsecondary education environments.
  • Experience in facilitating partnerships with constituents from a variety of institutional functional areas (students, student leaders, staff, faculty, administration).
  • Experience with evaluation and research tools.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and facilitating workshops.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Proven expertise and knowledge of best practices in student transition, learning skill development, and program development.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Interpersonal and crosscultural communications skills.
  • Excellent administrative skills, including word processing, data analysis, desktop publishing and experience with databases.
  • Strong written and public speaking skills.
  • Strong assessment (quantitative and qualitative) skills, including program evaluation and performance assessments.

Assets (Nonessential):


  • Experience in curriculum design and curriculum frameworks is an asset.
  • Experience with Quercus, UofT's Learning Management System
