JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:


  • BC Hydro is looking for a dynamic, innovative, resultsoriented maintenance manager to join its
  • Fleet Services team and help lead the transformation of the fleet maintenance function to ensure it
- meets the company's evolving business needs.
- meet the electricity needs of its customers by delivering on the capital plan while safely and cost
- effectively operating a growing system. Fleet Services is responsible for over 4,400 fleet vehicles
- across the province.

  • The position will report to the Senior Manager of Maintenance and Operations and lead a
- unionized workforce of people who perform day to day operations of BC Hydro's Fleet. The
- position requires dedication to customer satisfaction with a focus on excellent customer service to
- our internal clients, demonstrated strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, as
- well as very good organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

  • This is an operations role, and calls for someone with a strong safety record and demonstrated
- proactive approach to safety, and a penchant for successfully leading continuous improvement
- and delivering great results in vehicle maintenance programs.- bucket trucks, stiff boom crane trucks, digger derrick trucks, and articulating boom trucks), plus
- experience with shop-floor work management best practices.

  • Drive a safety culture by ensuring the use of safe work practices that comply with BC Hydro
policies and Provincial & Federal regulations- Recognize safe work performance and intervene when necessary to prevent safety incidents;

  • Lead a team of highlyskilled vehicle mechanics to safely perform maintenance, repairs and
other tasks/projects within annual work plans;

  • Review and continuously provide input to improve maintenance programs, to ensure optimal
total lifecycle maintenance investment;

  • Continuously improve work practices, with a focus on safety, efficiency and quality of work
performed;

  • Develop and sustain relationships, specifically with BC Hydro's operating groups, to understand
their business priorities and needs so Fleet Services can successfully operate to meet these
needs in a flexible and efficient way;

  • Be part of project teams to implement a multiyear, strategic change program for Fleet Services,
focusing on operational excellence to meet the future needs of clients, many of whom are
currently transforming their business processes;

  • Contribute to the development of a high performing team, across Fleet Services including staff
development;

  • Drive innovation to improve and update fleetrelated processes focused on quality, cost and
cycle time while aligning with BC Hydro strategies; and

  • Utilize strong management principles and good planning to develop and implement annual
safety, strategic and business plans and budgets, and ensure key priorities are determined,
communicated, reinforced and systematically met by the team.


Qualifications:

***- A Trade Certification in an Automotive trade or Commercial or Heavy-Duty Mechanics with

proven and relevant experience/skills in fleet vehicle maintenance; additional training and/or
- experience in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 13 years of experience in fleet operations or equivalent experience (within a
medium to large size multi-disciplinary organization)- Must have a strong safety record and demonstrate proactive approach to safety.

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in leading a unionized workforce
  • Experience in both building and leading a highperforming team.
  • Project management experience would be an asset with the ability to adapt to evolving business
needs.- Completion of the Trades to Management Program (T2M) would be considered an asset.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • A Driver's License Type = Minimum Class 5, in good standing, is required and Class 3 or better
is preferred

  • A written evaluation will form part of the evaluation process.
