Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Chair of the Department of Earth Sciences and the day-to-day reporting to the Supervisor, Technical Services, the incumbent will have the end-to-end responsibility for all aspects of the planning, design, implementation and support for compliant computer related technologies in administration, research and teaching.

With focus on risk and security, the incumbent will provide responsive day to day support; assess and deliver programming requests and requirements; research, analyze and recommend solutions; design and implement new operating systems, networks and servers; develop and update architectural frameworks for highly complex IT systems; develop and implement IT contingency plans; work collaboratively with IT partners for service and technology improvements, peer review and general alignment; and develop operating procedures and standards for IT services.

Your responsibilities will include:

Troubleshooting and fulfilling complex technology problems and requests
Driving the modernization of sustainable IT services
Planning and implementing IT projects
Creating complex system design and other technical documentation and user support guides
Adhere to and implement risk and security expectations across all functional IT areas
Collaborating with clients, teams, partners and vendors
Building project plans, cost estimates and proposals

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum five years of recent and related experience working with Unix/Linux, Apple and Windows systems in a highly technical and complex IT environment developing academic and administrative computing solutions preferably for a computing academic discipline
Experience with all aspects of operating system administration, for example, configuration of a web server, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security and installing thirdparty software.
Ability to diagnose componentlevel repair of computer systems.
Experience providing project leadership; collaborating on IT purchase recommendations and independently costing IT projects
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to deal with people in a tactful and effective manner and the ability to communicate with both technical and nontechnical people at their own level, explaining possibly complex technical concepts to a wide variety of nontechnical users.
Must have strong leadership skills, especially the ability to take personal responsibility to establish and maintain the goals and mission of various IT projects.
Excellent analytical and time management skills.
