on behalf of our client on Public Sector. we are looking for contract Business Intelligence Specialist for 1 year remote contractDescription
SCOPE:
- Provide planning, assessment, and development effort to complete the migration of approximately 136 IBM Cognos reports to Power BI
- Work with Senior Developer to evaluate and modernize reports, where applicable
- Reverse engineer IBM Cognos reports to core program logic, and recode or migrate report functionality to Power BI Desktop or Power BI Report Builder based on Project Team assessment
- Work with project team to complete all relevant and required documentation, such as knowledge transfer, and communication, to support the completion of the project
DELIVERABLES:
- Review IBM Cognos reports within scope of project to understand functionality, logic and design
- Perform assessment, and define approach in collaboration with project team and stakeholder to migrate IBM Cognos reports to appropriate Power BI tool (i.e., Desktop or Report Builder)
- Perform design and development activities to migrate IBM Cognos reports to Power BI in alignment with OPS Standards and Guidelines (i.e., AODA, WCAG 2.0 Level AA)
- Work with project team to provide relevant and required documentation to support migration activities and knowledge transfer
- Participate in knowledge transfer activities
Skills:
Experience and Skill Set Requirements
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of IBM Cognos Report Studio (version 11 or earlier) [At least 5 years of experience]
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Power BI Desktop [At least 2 years of experience]
- Demonstrated working knowledge of SQL query languages (T-SQL, PL-SQL) [At least 4 years of experience]
- Demonstrated working knowledge of DAX programming (At least 2 years of experience)
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience working in a business intelligence team/ environment, developing and delivering business intelligence and/or analytical reports and dashboards
- Experience working with IBM Cognos Report Studio (version 11, or earlier) to design and develop reports and dashboards, as well as writing Transact-SQL (T-SQL) queries
- Experience working with Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Builder to design and develop reports and dashboards and work with team members to explore options to redesign outdated reports
- Experience writing and working with Microsoft Power BI DAX code to implement business logic within Power BI reports
- Experience performing troubleshooting of SQL queries, business intelligence and analytical reports, as well as performing data analysis to complete data validation and ensure report accuracy.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
- Knowledge of ETL tools, such as Azure Data Factory, Microsoft SSDT, IBM DataStage
- Ability to work with large datasets e.g., 100 million records plus and ability to create Power BI datasets
- Knowledge of Power BI Service, functions, capabilities, security options, etc.
CRITERIA:
Criteria - Technical Knowledge
- Experience/ demonstrated ability working with IBM Cognos Report Studio (version 11 or earlier) to design and develop reports and dashboards (at least 5 years of experience)
- Experience/ demonstrated ability writing Transact-SQL (T-SQL) queries (at least 4 years of experience)
- Experience/ demonstrated ability working with Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Builder to design and develop reports and dashboards (at least 2 years of experience)
- Experience / demonstrated ability writing DAX code, perform data modelling and implement functionality within Power BI reports and dashboards (at least 2 years of experience)
Criteria - Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- Experience/ demonstrated ability to perform technical troubleshooting, specifically within a business intelligence environment/team or against reports, dashboards, and database queries such as Transact SQL (T-SQL)
- Experience / demonstrated ability to analyze data to resolve data quality issues and perform report validation
- Demonstrated experience working within a team environment to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
Criteria - Communication Skills
- Oral and written communication skills, Interpersonal and consultative skills, Facilitation skills
- Demonstrated experience working in a team environment, contributing to team meetings on work progress, communicating risks and issues, providing results from work assessments, and explaining technical tasks to nontechnical team members
- Experience preparing documentation
