OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the program supervisor, the support workers are responsible for working as part of
the youth transition team, to assist youth to build their skills and resources as they exit the CFS system.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide onsite support for youth living in Memengwaa transitional housing to enhance mental, emotional,
physical, and spiritual wellness.

  • Support social and recreational activities for youth onsite or in the community; encourage youth to
identify interests and engage youth in activities

  • Communicate and collaborate with case manager to identify the unique goals of each youth.
  • Support onsite life skills development by guiding youth through tasks such as completion of household
chores, cooking, hygiene, or preparing for their day; provide youth regular reminders.

  • Coordinate and/or facilitate programming and activities for tenants, in partnership with youth transition
workers.

  • Assist youth to obtain ID, attend appointments, find resources, and make community connections.
  • Conduct regular check ins and walk throughs to ensure youth are safe.
  • Provide transportation when needed and appropriate.
  • Intervene in crises, providing guidance, support, or resources; contact emergency supports if needed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete written records and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training in social services field considered an asset; ASIST, NVCI, First Aid CPR, and other related trainings
required.

  • Knowledge of CFS system and experiences of youth aging out of care; lived experience a definite asset.
  • Excellent communication skills; capable of building effective, trusting relationships.
  • Ability to handle crisis in a calm, respectful manner.
  • Experience and knowledge in Indigenous approaches to supporting youth wellness.
  • Knowledge of community resources, particularly resources in the North End.
  • Successful applicant will also be required to provide proof of COVID19 vaccination prior to start date.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record
check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment. (This

does not necessarily mean you will not be eligible to work for SAI).
