Supportive Housing - Graham's Place

Permanent Part-time 45 Hours Bi-weekly


Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking qualified permanent Part-time Youth Workers to join our Supportive Housing team, to provide support for our housing at Graham's Place and create a safe environment for youth.

What We Do

YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. We provide overnight, residential and day programming to youth who access our services.

Based in Edmonton, YESS provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 shelter, a drop-in resource centre, temporary supportive housing, temporary independent cohort housing, and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15-24.


We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

What You Will Do

We are currently seeking qualified individuals to provide support for the youth at Graham's Place.

Graham's Place is one of two supportive housing facilities for youth who need the stability and support of a longer-term placement than our shelter.

The residence provides a homelike environment while youth work on their goals.


The following shift schedule is available (45 hours bi-weekly):

  • Week 1_
Monday 3:00 pm-10:00 pm, Tuesday 3:00 pm-10:00 pm, Saturday 5:00 pm-10:00 pm, Sunday 5:00 pm-10:00 pm

  • Week 2_
Monday 3:00 pm-10:00 pm, Wednesday 3:00 pm-10:00 pm and Thursday 3:00 pm-10:00 pm


Location: 93 street and 82 Avenue Edmonton, AB


Responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of Youth
  • Working with youth on safety and crisis planning and teaching basic life skills such as cooking and cleaning
  • Planning weekly activities for youth
  • Coordinating with kitchen staff and team mates to provide daily meals for youth
  • Ensuring the residence is maintained to standards of cleanliness
  • Ensuring all internal and external documentation is completed
  • Conducting regular bed and building checks
  • Managing crisis situations when client safety and security is threatened
  • Implementing the Agency's emergency procedures in the case of an emergency
  • Planning and conducting fire drills on a regular basis
  • Maintaining a consistent family/home environment for the youth
  • Participating in mandatory staff training, team meetings, staff meetings and annual staff retreat


Additionally, you will provide a professional level of service to donors, promote the agency in a positive manner to the outside community and share information, communicate, and collaborate with other YESS staff.


You have the ability to work with mínimal supervision and are detailed orientated, organized, and have creative problem solving skills.

You know how to support youth from a trauma informed scope, and role model socially and professionally acceptable behaviours. You have a harm reduction mind set and can provide suicidal ideation intervention and safety planning.

What You Bring

  • Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
  • A minimum of twoyear's experience working in a group home is required
  • Child and Youth Care experience would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience working with ETO is considered an asset
  • CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
Prerequisites

  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate
  • Valid Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certificate
  • Medication Administration certificate
  • Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
  • Valid driver's license and driver's abstract
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $1 million third party liability)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
