Supervisor, EarlyON

***: The Early Learning Family Educator promotes child development and effective parenting/caregiving by delivering inclusive, culturally sensitive programs that promote evidence-based early child development strategies and parenting techniques; provides parents and caregivers with opportunities for mutual support and information sharing, information and referral and facilitated access to community resources.

This position is currently based at our
EarlyON Centres and is funded through the EarlyON

Reimaging Early Years Programming for Black Children and Families.***
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and deliver culturally appropriate and inclusive parent/caregivers programs that promote positive adult
  • child interactions, healthy child development, child guidance techniques and positive parenting strategies
  • Setup playrooms to ensure safe and stimulating high quality programs that meet the needs of all children, including children with extra support needs
  • Adopt program and individual strategies that promote inclusion and the process of early identification
  • Communicate respectfully and responsively with families, parents, caregivers and children; work in partnership with parents and caregivers to meet the needs of children
  • Provide information and referral to parents and caregivers; facilitate access to community resources
  • Foster a supportive environment reflective of the diversity of the community
  • Facilitate opportunities for mutual support and information sharing among parents and caregivers
  • Conduct outreach and liaise with other agencies to reach and meet the needs of families, including high risk/isolated families
  • Mentor or supervise students and volunteers
  • Perform other tasks as delegated or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Early Childhood Education degree/diploma or equivalent and experience working with families and children, including children with extra support needs
  • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Demonstrated clear understanding of holistic and inclusive practices, including the ability to deliver programming to children with extra support needs
  • Familiar with the principles of adult education
  • Extensive knowledge of community services
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and excellent listening skills
  • A second language reflective of the local community is strongly preferred (second language is an asset)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities
  • Lived experience as a person of African descent
  • Have knowledge about antiBlack racism and its impact on families and children.
  • Have a strong understanding of family support practices, child development and culturally responsive pedagogy, particularly regarding Black families in Canada.
  • Have a commitment to providing equitable opportunities and relevant programs that celebrate Black cultures.
  • Strong understanding of teamwork and the ability to work effectively and contribute to a high performing team
  • Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize
  • Ability to do heavy lifting and moving furniture over 20 lbs
  • Ability to work all shifts: day, evening and weekend hours
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required

SALARY:

Early Learning Family Educator Salary Scale (starting at 25.39/hour
- $46,207 - $48, 827 per annum) (prorated) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental), Defined Pension plan, and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days)
