About the Role


Reporting to the CFO, the Controller serves as a key member of the Finance and Admin Team and an active participant in making strategic decisions to enhance business processes and increase organizational efficiencies.

The Controller is responsible for Amii's full cycle accounting and all financial transactions.

The Controller ensures that the books and accounting records are kept in accordance with GAAP and that all financial transactions are documented and supported.

The Controller designs, implements, and maintains monthly/quarterly/annual reporting, forecasting, and budgeting standards and processes to ensure compliance and effective business management.

The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and completes projects and provides assistance whenever necessary.

The Controller also works with the Directors of the various Amii teams to develop & produce monthly reports that assist the Directors in their decision-making and budget/forecasting management in addition to the development of financial modeling for purposes of pricing decisions.

The Controller is responsible for leading the annual audit by managing the audit workflow and deliverables while liaising with auditors as required.


The role focuses on achieving excellence in three main accountabilities:

Required Skills / Expertise

Key Responsibilities:


  • Managing the comprehensive monthend close process, including the meticulous development and dissemination of monthly management reports tailored for Directors and Program Owners. These reports provide detailed insights into updated departmental revenues and expenses, along with the monthly Amii revenue report, ensuring Directors are fully informed about the revenue generated throughout the month.
  • Overseeing the development of the monthly financial presentation for the Executive team highlighting significant information obtained from the Management Reports and identifying and explaining variances that arise from actual financial results.
  • Quarterly cash flow projections to the Executive team showing our cash position until the end of fiscal year.
  • Preparing financial presentations for the Board meetings.
  • Development and maintenance of a comprehensive annual budget model and development of annual budget process with input from each Product Owner.
  • Updating the annual budget model for quarterly forecasts throughout the year and development of quarterly forecast process with input from each Product Owner
  • Developing product and services financial and pricing models
  • Managing the audit and overseeing the preparation of the yearend working papers and schedules.
  • Building and maintaining an expense allocation file to aid in fund accounting and reporting to various sources of funding throughout the year.
  • Overseeing the biweekly payroll reconciliations and reconciling various issues related to RSP, benefits, and vacation pay.
  • Records Management all records such as contracts, agreements, statements of work and NDA's are accurately filed
  • Supporting colleagues, including Product Owners, the CFO, and Grants Officer, in diverse projects that demand financial expertise and insight, offering valuable assistance in navigating financial aspects effectively.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a similar position.

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Highly proficient in MS Office environment, excellent data analysis skills and abilities (must be advanced expert in MS Excel, including knowledge of advanced tools, pivot tables, formulas, and conditional formatting); experience with QuickBooks Desktop is an asset
  • Understanding of GAAP (Generally accepted accounting principles), fund accounting
  • Knowledge of accounting standards for NFPs, finance, audit, and design, implementation, and presentation of advanced financial and business reporting.
  • Experience performing the payroll function and use of payroll software is an asset
  • Thorough working knowledge of internal controls and internal control concepts
