Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Withdrawal Management Centre, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Offer person-centred care, guided by recovery principles, the RPN promotes healing and recovery, while instilling hope through demonstrating the values of the Mental Health and Addictions Program.

The RPN will provide clinical assessment of patients and recommend appropriate dispositions for a patient population that includes individuals with complex chronic addictions as well as those individuals with severe mental illness and medical complications.

Participates in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as required
Engages in professional development and continuing education
Assists with program development and evaluation as required
Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment


Other information:

  • Current registration in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario mandatory
  • Practices in accordance with practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Canadian Standards of Mental Health Nursing, and Withdrawal Management Standards of Ontario.

Minimum 3-5 years nursing experience required.3 years' experience in mental health and addictions required and addictions/concurrent disorder counselling is preferred.

Addictions specific training preferredAdvanced knowledge of psychotropic medication and related side effects requiredDemonstrated understanding of addictions, concurrent disorders and Recovery models requiredWorking knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Privacy Act, Health Care Consent Act, and other relevant legislation requiredDemonstrated ability to work independently and resolve issues with minimum supervisionDemonstrated understanding of and commitment to Grand River Hospital Mental

  • Health & Addiction Program comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safetyDemonstrated skills in crisis assessment, intervention, deescalation and motivational interviewing requiredProven ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and community service providers requiredDemonstrated ability to provide in depth mental health/addictions assessments, risk assessments, mental status examinations, and development of crisis, and discharge plans requiredExcellent critical thinking skillsExcellent organizational, timemanagement, prioritization and problemsolving abilitiesProven to have strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skillsProficiency in Microsoft word with strong keyboarding skillsCurrent CPR certification requiredGood attendance record
