Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the VP, Commercial Director Canada, this position will manage the Direct Sales portfolio of Allianz Trade Canada; analyze and provide policy structure and premium rates for new and renewal programs; develop and manage customer relationships; cultivate and develop direct sales force relationships; provide the highest quality of customer service all in order to achieve Allianz Trade's profitability and growth objectives.


Key Responsibilities/What You Do:


  • Oversee the underwriting performance and monitoring of commercial underwriting KPI's for new business and renewal management of the Direct Sales portfolio, and be a principal driver of revenue, growth and profitability for Allianz Trade Canada.
  • Review and actively monitor policies underwritten to ensure compliance with Regional & Group Commercial Underwriting Guidelines, quote/negotiate new business and renewal policies according to our retention and profitability objectives.
  • Manage the commercial underwriting team training, coaching, guidance (including validation of Compass approvals per our Group Commercial Underwriting Guidelines)
  • Collaborate with Head of Direct Sales and Head of Broker Management for consistency in underwriting and sharing of best practices and market intelligence.
  • High level of interaction with Credit Underwriting to maximize approvals for new business and renewals.
  • Provide coordination with Direct Sales and Credit for limit escalation process and monitoring of Risk Actions (Heads Up Process) to ensure Allianz Trade Canada customers receive best possible communication and allocation of cover.
  • Provide highest possible level of customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Work on projects assigned by the Commercial Director Canada on an as needed basis.
  • Incorporate credit and business analytical skills in assessing risk decisions of correspondents and assisting in structuring and pricing of policies in a prudent manner.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of courtesy, efficiency and professionalism when communicating with internal and external clients and correspondents. Provide information on decisions involving individual credit limits, buyer risk decisions, price and terms of policies.
  • Understand and remain current on world markets and general global business practices.

Key Requirements/What You Bring:


  • Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, finance or related discipline. Advanced degree (MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial services or underwriting experience.
  • Strong Project Management skills required.
  • Insurance License & Formal Credit Training program would be an asset.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Able to deal effectively with our Direct Sales Force and other departments within Allianz Trade in Canada and Allianz Trade Group
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to convince, motive and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain proper balance between commercial and u/w objectives to ensure profitable growth
  • Understanding of risk underwriting and financial statement analysis
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Bilingual preferred.
