Job Summary

The Community Worker(s) report(s) to the Community House Coordinator and works closely with community members in low-income housing communities in PQ's catchment area.


Project details:


Building Capacity and Family Connections is a 7-month pilot project that focuses on the area served by Winthrop Court Community House.

Our project aims to provide families with individualized support to collaboratively work through challenging situations. Monthly facilitated sessions will be offered, covering topics such as health, well-being, information, and accessing services.

These sessions will serve as learning tools for the entire family, and the program's primary focus will be on enhancing families' capacity to effectively handle challenging situations.

Community Worker will take a lead role on support and monthly information groups.
Job Specific Responsibilities


Community Development and Outreach:


  • Ability to effectively conduct outreach activities to atrisk community members including identification of needs and interests based on the Community Development Framework.
  • Respecting and valuing the diversity of communities and individuals by working in a manner that incorporates health promotion and recognizes the social determinants of health.
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risk in keeping with PQ's Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide linkages with broader community resource base.
  • Provide practical assistance and internal and external referral services to clients.
  • Creates a supportive environment for community members to address barriers they may be experiencing.
  • Builds and maintains pertinent community partnerships in conjunction with the respective coordinator.
  • Promotes/advertises and informs the community on House programs and services.
  • Works with communities to identify areas of potential conflict; assists in implementing conflict resolution tactics.

Program Development:


  • Assist in developing and implementing opportunities, programs, and services with their respective CH Coordinator to ensure alignment of the mission, values, and vision of PQ.
  • Assist in development of program proposals which include statement of purpose, timelines, budget, activities, supplying inventory etc.
  • Contribute to the evaluation framework that evaluates all programs and services and reports findings to their respective CH Coordinator.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement.

Administrative Duties:


  • Maintain records for petty cash, program participation forms, crisis interventions/referrals, program evaluation in line with PQ's Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure security of community house by being responsible for being in possession of a community house key during working hours including house opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Attend, actively participate, and lead team and department meetings as delegated by respective CH Coordinator.
  • Assisting respective CH Coordinator with training and onboarding of students and volunteers.
  • Provide support to CH Coordinators, program assistants, volunteers, and clients.
  • Work in cross functional teams to assist other Community Houses as necessary.
  • Participate in writing interim as well as final reports as delegated by respective coordinators.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Flexibility to work during both regular and extended hours of operation (weekends, evenings) based on community needs.
  • Demonstrating responsibility for personal and professional growth and development.
  • Working in a manner that supports the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety and all other relevant Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications:


  • Degree or diploma in health or social services, youth and childcare worker, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience creating a safe and inclusive environment, including virtual environments.
  • Training and experience inprogram planning, group facilitation and leadership development.
  • Training/experience with inperson group facilitation.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in various capacities.
