Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics and/or designate, the Summer Aquatic Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation, scheduling and delivery of new and existing aquatic programs and provide administrative support to Aquatics area, as required.

They will also assist with the administration, implementation, marketing and programming of aquatic classes, as well as responding to customer inquiries regarding aquatic programming.


Responsibilities:


  • Planning, implementation, scheduling and delivery of new and existing aquatic programs
  • Provide administrative support to Aquatics area, as required
  • Assist in the smooth and efficient operation of all pools and aquatic programs
  • Provides onsite supervision of Aquatic Programs and Staff when needed
  • Interacts with the public on a regular basis, and promotes City programs to customers
  • Responds to customer feedback in a professional and knowledgeable manner
  • Assists in evaluating staff performance in accordance with City of Oshawa regulations and practices.
  • Ensure compliance of Ontario Public Pools Regulation 565 in all facilities
  • Support and demonstrate the City of Oshawa core values of Authenticity, Courage, and Trust

Requirements:


  • Knowledge and skill generally associated with the completion of a two (2) year Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies or related discipline from a recognized community college plus two (2) years of recreation programming experience; or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Aquatic Qualifications current within 2 years including: National Lifeguard Service Award; Red Cross Water Safety Instructor; and LSS Lifesaving Instructor.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid, CPR (Level C), and AED
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pool Regulations, and regulations/standards governing the operation of public pools, spas, and waterslides.
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, marketing, administrative, business planning and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent customer service experience communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with staff, external agencies, and the general public.
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and able to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid, unrestricted Ontario Driver's Licence, minimum Class "G"
  • Meet the eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;
  • Please note, international students are not eligible participants.
All training hours are paid at minimum wage as outlined in the Employment Standards Act.
