Account Manager in our Toronto office.


The Group Benefits Account Manager leads the overall service, management, and implementation of a book of business and works closely with the Benefits Consultant on accounts.

They are responsible for supporting the acquisition of new business.


The role requires a high degree of independent discretion, autonomy, and decision-making based on industry knowledge and experience to provide professional guidance, expertise, and service to clients, professional and collaborative relationships with carrier representatives, business partners, and colleagues.

The primary objective of this role is to work collaboratively with the team, and to maintain client retention that meets or exceeds expectations.


Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned book of business
  • Lead all aspects of client service, internal management, and day to day functions of book of business.
  • Use judgment and creativity based on industry experience to produce favourable results and solutions to address clients' needs
  • Utilize industry experience and indepth knowledge of insurance markets, policy provisions, claim processes, business environment, and risk mitigation
  • Acquires understanding of clients' business and insurance objectives and critically analyzes and compares insurance plans to determine suitability
  • When counselling clients on appropriate coverage, assesses risks based on clients' situation and determine proper coverage to insure and mitigate those risks
  • Assist with negotiating terms, conditions, and pricing directly with insurance carriers
  • Leads client meetings (including renewal meetings)
  • Support, mentor, and train assigned Account Representatives, as necessary
  • Oversee functions performed by Account Representatives including approval of renewal strategies and resolution of client and carrier issues
  • Seek continued knowledge and stay abreast of changes in the industry and other external conditions that may impact clients. Make appropriate recommendations to clients in response to those changes
  • Responsible for overall retention of accounts in assigned book of business
  • Identify opportunities for crosssell and upsell of other products and services where appropriate
  • Document conversations with clients and carrier representatives and update all systems with information as necessary
  • Travel on company business as required
  • Prepare reports for management as required
  • Attend industry related continuing education training and courses
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Experience:


  • 5 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency in a benefits insurance Account Executive or Account Management role. Brokerage experience is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written English communications skills
  • Leadership experience and independent responsibility for client retention preferred
  • Ability to lead in a team environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer systems
  • Knowledge of Unions
  • Uptodate with all necessary CE credits

Education:


  • College or university graduate, or equivalent business experience
  • Completion of the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation an asset
  • Valid Life Insurance License preferred
