Description
GFL Environmental is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to support our operations in Pickering, ON. This role is responsible for the processing and loading waste and waste diversion materials.

Operates heavy equipment such as front end loader and maintains areas of the site, heavy equipment, and tools as required.


Key Responsibilities:

Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company's standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed

Understanding of our site specific Environmental Certificate of Approvals (ECAs) and associated compliance requirements the handling, loading and transport of waste.

The processing and loading waste and waste diversion materials.
Operating heavy equipment such as front-end loader and forklifts
Maintains areas of the site, heavy equipment, and tools
Inspecting and documenting the results of the inspections with respect the equipment used
Identification of maintenance requirements, perform regular equipment maintenance checks, use air compressed, power or hand tools.
Ability to recommend procedural or equipment changes and complete daily check lists.
Notify the Supervisor/Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identified
Follow procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.
Inform management of any known occupational health and safety concerns
Maintain work area to ensure to compliance with housekeeping, environmental and safety regulations
Assist with the dumping and processing of waste materials


Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

1 + year experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator
Sustain working outdoors and exposure to inclement weather.
Effective verbal and written communicator
Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment
Must be safety conscious and detail oriented
Ability to follow procedures and execute work with mínimal supervision
Team work and coordination with other departments
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to use the safety equipment required
Able to adapt to change
Ability to lift up to 20 kg
Willing to work overtime, alternate shifts and occasional weekends
