The Corporate Affairs unit of Elections Ontario is seeking a results-oriented leader to support our transformation agenda to modernize Ontario's electoral system.

This is an opportunity to demonstrate your highly developed strategic and analytic capabilities to lead policy development, strategic planning, and special operational initiatives.


The Advisor requires strong leadership capabilities to advise cross-divisional teams, and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external key partners.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to develop strong relationships and facilitate coordination across teams will also be essential to your success.


What to expect in this role
Reporting to the Senior Strategic Planning Advisor, you will:

  • Lead policy review, research, analysis, and development of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Independently research and lead the design and continuous improvement of organizationwide reporting frameworks.
  • Coordinate the organization's annual planning and budget process, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Write briefing notes, reports and develop presentations for senior Executives on policy and planning issues and recommend solutions.
  • Independently develop strategic, research, and operational projects to support decisionmaking.
  • Support the Corporate Affairs team on special projects on an as needed basis.

What you need to qualify
-
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives (e.g., policy, planning, operations, research) and cross-divisional teams.
-
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare and verbally present information (e.g., briefings, recommendations, and presentations).
-
Policy and strategic planning: Knowledge of policy development approaches (e.g., public sector policy development; research-policy-practice cycle), and/or strategic and financial planning.

Analytic and strategic skills: Proven conceptual, research, and evaluative skills to identify strategic issues, underlying causes, and develop options and recommendations.

Interpersonal: Demonstrated interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.

Technical skills and knowledge:Highly developed knowledge and proficiency in the use of MS Office with emphasis on Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel as well as MS SharePoint and Visio.

Performance management: Knowledge of performance management approaches (e.g., outcomes-based accountability, key performance indicators, log frames).

Fiscal planning: Knowledge and experience in budget planning, financial management, and/or reporting.

Electoral system: Understanding of Ontario's electoral system and current electoral reform issues.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
