Yaletown House Society is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized & detailed orientated, and committed Recreation Activity Coordinator.


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements and evaluates innovative recreation / activity program (s) based on assessed group and onetoone resident's needs, interests and skills.
  • Ensures the recreation / activity programs include activities such as arts and crafts, sports, music, woodworking, cooking, gardening, exercises and sensory stimulation, to meet the resident's physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs and interests;
  • Develops goals and objectives for each recreation / activity program and monitors the effectiveness of each program(s).
  • Determines the recreation / activity program(s) which meet the resident's needs and ability by reviewing the admission documentation or care plan, interviewing the resident regarding their social/leisure history, and consulting with family and nursing staff; identifies, evaluates, implements, and documents recreation/leisure goals and objectives based on individual interests and abilities.
  • Creates, implements and evaluates innovative therapeutic programs based on assessed group and onetoone needs, interests and skills.
  • Sets up a calendar of events/activity programs and teaches the techniques of related programs; contacts external agencies for program resources.
  • Monitors, evaluates and documents resident progress within the recreation / activity program(s) and reports observations such as emotional well being and social behavior to nursing staff as required.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and care conferences.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations regarding community and care home resources that may be of additional interest or need to the resident.
  • Monitors program expenditures and provides input to the program budget; oversees inventory of equipment, tools and materials and recommends purchases of same to meet the needs of the residents and the programs provided.
  • Documents and modifies recreational assessments, care plans, program information and resident status/progress as required.
  • Encourages resident participation in and integration into the outside community, as appropriate.
  • Operates the Yaletown House bus for resident recreational drives and outings. Assists in embarking and disembarking passengers.
  • Performs a variety routine inspection/maintenance duties on the bus and equipment such as securing passengers, cleaning, checking belts, lights and tires and maintaining fluid levels; recommends vehicle and/or equipment repairs as required.
  • Records and maintains continuous quality care statistics to assist in program evaluation and development.
  • Plans and develops volunteer programs and activities, prepares reports on volunteer activities and maintains related records.
  • Maintains contact with community groups and volunteer organizations regarding activities and related arrangement requirements.
  • Supervises designated volunteers by performing duties such as scheduling and cocoordinating work assignments, evaluating volunteers' performance and determining related training and orientation requirements. Reports all volunteer complaints and/or conflicts to management for investigation.
  • Provides guidance and support to volunteers by clarifying roles and expectations and providing formal and informal volunteer recognition.
  • Maintains volunteer program records, volunteer data, and prepares related reports and statistics.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:


Education, Training and Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized recreational program plus three year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience with geriatric populations, preferred.
  • Valid class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted).
  • Completion of a volunteer management course, plus 3 year's recent experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Schedule

Working Days:
Position - Sunday to Thursday, 8am-4pm

Position - Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm


Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent


Pay:
$31.89 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
