OCAD U is currently seeking outstanding, creative and collaborative teachers in the following sessional opportunities/opportunity.

EXAN-2001 DRAWING FOR ANIMATION (0.5 credits)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:


Students learn observational and experimental drawing strategies with a concentration on iterative studio methods, stylistic approaches, personal reflection and idea generation.

Working from life models and observation, students develop skills for anatomy, gestural forms, movement and still life, as well as abstraction and workflows for frame-by-frame animation.

These skills are translated into character designs, layouts, storyboards for animated films or interdisciplinary and experimental projects. The course explores analogue and digital drawing methods related to 2D and 3D animation.

Students develop a critical awareness of the history of drawing and animation in relation to diverse, national, international and indigenous approaches.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews, participation in Faculty and program meetings; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

The course will be held in person.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
  • The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience with some or all of the following:
  • Figure drawing with a live model, anatomical drawing
  • Awareness of issues of representation when drawing characters or the human form
  • Observational drawing
  • Familiarity with analog drawing media and digital drawing and painting tools, esp. Creative Cloud software
  • Perspective drawing
  • Use of drawing for concept generation, story boarding, previsualization, etc.
  • Character design
  • Drawing as an experimental, contemporary processbased art form
  • Knowledge of the conventions of traditional 2D animation
  • Knowledge of historical and contemporary experimental animation practices.
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty
