The Community Corrections and Corporate Programs Division of the Corrections Branch is responsible for the delivery of programs and services to adult offenders or alleged offenders awaiting trial or sentencing, who are serving community based sentences of the court.

The intent of these programs and services is to enhance public safety by assessing and managing the risk of the offenders and providing intervention to change behaviour.

The Community Corrections Division works closely with the court system and the Adult Custody Division of the Corrections Branch and responds to court and custody requests for pre-sentence and other reports.

Community Corrections Offices are the primary location for client supervision and liaison with community and justice partners as well as the general public.

Administrative Assistants work within community corrections offices frequently interacting with individuals under community supervision orders. Clients under community supervision order may have multiple legal, health, social and/or mental health challenges. This position may involve exposure to hostile, abusive and/or potentially violent clients and exposure to traumatic material.


Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager, the Administrative Assistant provides confidential office support services, frontline reception services, data entry for electronic systems, and maintains files and records, and provides financial support services.


Job Requirements:


Applicants with transcripts from foreign countries must contact International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) which will evaluate the credentials and determine comparable levels in BC or Canadian terms.

Documentation must be provided to the closing location by the closing date.

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience, or a combination of related experience, education and/or training (e.g., clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support).
  • Minimum 1 year clerical/administrative support experience in an office setting.
  • Keyboard accuracy of minimum 30 WPM
  • Experience providing customer service, including problem solving, tracking, and followup.
  • Experience with records management/archiving/filing.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Post-secondary education and/or training in Office Administration or a closely related field.
  • 2 or more years of clerical/administrative support experience in an office setting.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with corrections clients
  • Experience in accounting and budgeting

Provisos:

Travel may be a requirement of the position.
