Position Summary

  • Responsible for enhancing practice to enable registrants to meet and exceed the Standards of Practice resulting in better patient outcomes. Promoting and supporting the OCP mandate by conducting practice assessments in hospital environments to ensure adherence to all legislation, Policies, Guidelines and Standards of Practice in order to serve and protect the public. Championing new practice initiatives while using multifaceted coaching skills in order to influence, manage and drive change while supporting the safe delivery of patient focused care.
What you'll do at OCP

  • Perform (within the assigned geographical area as well as, occasionally, other communities in the province of Ontario) practice assessments to evaluate registrant's practice to ensure compliance with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
  • Identify and evaluate areas for improvement and factors that may affect patient care and provide guidance, direction and coaching to registrants in order to minimize public risk and optimize health outcomes.
  • Revisit registrants where significant issues were noted during an assessment. Conduct reassessments throughout the province as assigned by the Quality Assurance Committee and/or the Practice Advisor Lead.
  • Prioritize practice assessments within territory based on risk, internal and external information, and other required follow up.
  • Coach OCP registrants to develop goals that lead to practice change as well as ensuring Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics are met and enhanced.
  • Continually examine work processes and explore opportunities for improving efficiencies through team collaboration, embracing technology for novel assessment approaches, eliminating or altering work processes and make recommendations to the Practice Advisor Lead. Work within records management principles and guidelines for record keeping.
  • Occasional extensive travel required. Involves visits to practice sites throughout Ontario (as required per most current assessment model) with occasional overnight trips
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Lead, Practice Advisors or Manager, Assessments including orientation of new team members

  • Thorough knowledge of legislation, College policies, guidelines and standards of practice
  • Excellent written, verbal and nonverbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing environments
  • Selfmotivation and solid organizational skills to efficiently and effectively manage workload capacity to be flexible in time management, deal effectively with multiple demands and maintain composure while progressing toward desired outcomes
  • Ability to coach, influence and provide guidance to OCP registrants
  • Strong decisionmaking skills to determine the best possible choice in the shortest time possible, as well as being able to show reasons that support your decisions
  • Ability to recognize, respond and adapt to various stages within individual change management principles
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Tact and diplomacy with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to effectively initiate, foster and maintain peer to peer relationships with registrants
  • Judgment and discretion; ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive material
  • Ability to deal effectively with stakeholders in person and over the phone and defuse difficult situations as required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of varied backgrounds with cultural sensitivity in individual and group settings
What experience we prefer

  • Active Part A Pharmacist license in Ontario plus registrant in good standing with the College.
  • Minimum 5 years practice experience.
  • Must have 2 years of related progressive experience in a Pharmacy environment or other relevant setting
  • Must have own vehicle and possess a valid Ontario driver's license
