The Opportunity
This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division.

We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life.

Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott's diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.

In this role you will support the QA Operations team in the role of Quality Manager Product Release.


What You'll Do


Lead the Finished and In-Process Goods Release and Engineering teams including creating a positive work environment to engage and inspire great collaboration and improvement within the team and cross functionally with other teams.

Mentor and perform performance reviews and provide ongoing support and encouragement to the team to help grow and develop talent within the team.

Provide Management support for all shifts as required.


Ensure that in-process and finished products are tested, and data is analyzed in a timely fashion to ensure that meet product meets specifications.

Identify product quality trends in a timely and efficient manner to take appropriate action.

Provide oversight for the value assignment process for finished product to ensure that accurate value assignment is conducted for our customers and finished goods testing.


Perform Out-of-Specification investigations, non-conformance and CAPA activities, and qualification activities as well as supporting continuous improvement of the quality system and processes for the teams.

Prepare and present and improve quality metrics for management review and other review meetings. Support the product release function by representing the work processes as part of internal and external quality system audits.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Science.

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

  • 3+ years working in an environment governed by medical device compliance including ISO13485, FDA CFR 820 and other applicable international standards
  • 5+ related experience in a manufacturing quality engineering role.
Experience leading, mentoring, and developing people and performing performance reviews.

Ability to operate independently with mínimal supervision and within time constraints.

Ability to convey communications clearly, concisely, and accurately.

Ability to interpret and evaluate complex processes, develop, and propose risk-based options to resolve issues and implement solutions.

Knowledge of statistical sampling requirements and plan and statistical software.

Knowledge of LEAN and Six Sigma problem solving is an asset.
