The Horticulture Technician is responsible for the day to day maintenance and operations of garden collections and spaces to ensure a high degree of aesthetic quality and safety for staff and public.
Reporting to the Manager of Horticulture and Infrastructure, the Horticulture Technician will provide internal feedback to the Manager for operational and strategic planning.
The Horticulture Technician is responsible for supervising, planning, and organizing work for a crew of seasonal staff.Horticulture/Landscape Maintenance Duties:
- Safe operation of equipment such as lawnmowers, blowers, chainsaw etc
- Woody and herbaceous plant material maintenance activities such as structural pruning, deadheading, dividing, installation and removal
- Turf maintenance activities such as mowing, thatching, installation/removal of turf, overseeding, fertilizing
- Hardscape/Irrigation maintenance activities such as walkway repair, irrigation repair/monitoring, cleaning of stonework
- Greenhouse activities such as weeding, seeding, watering
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
- First Aid Certification
- Diploma in horticulture or related field or two years equivalent experience in horticulture
Preferred Qualifications
- Equipment operator certification and experience with skid steers, ride on mowers
- Irrigation experience
- Pesticide applicator or Authorized Assistant certification
- Supervisory experience
