AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Transportation Planning, this position is responsible for leading a diverse portfolio of multi-modal transportation planning and policy projects - including the City's Transportation Master Plan - to support sustainable transportation needs, and addressing complex planning, urban design, and traffic engineering issues with creative and collaborative solutions.

This role coordinates work of others (staff, consultants etc) to ensure that sustainable mobility strategies, policies and projects are developed and refined to support growth and urban intensification in Brampton, consistent with the overall objectives of the City's Vision 2040.


  • Manage, coordinate and facilitate a transportation planning program focussed on the implementation of the City's Transportation Master Plan, and on master plan refinements and updates to respond to growth and emerging, evolving, and changing policies and best practices. This includes coordination and analysis of detailed background studies and related studies submitted by external consultants to ensure the planning objectives of the City are respected. Design the overall project delivery strategy including the creation and execution of project plans.
  • Project management, including scheduling, facilitating information exchanges, chairing Committees and meetings, preparing reports and documentation and generally ensuring that the transportation planning program is progressing within or exceeding expectations. Assign and coordinate all transportation initiatives related to the Transportation Master Plan. Provide budget information relative to funding and delivery of necessary infrastructure and services to accommodate growth. Analyses the impact of project deferrals, delays and recommends measures to ensure the project requirements are addressed. Processes invoices and approves related project expenses.
  • Provide leadership to other City staff, other municipalities, external agencies, development industry and consultants. Review and critique the work of consultants and ensure that input of City staff is incorporated. Supervises the daytoday tasks for project teams and sets priorities, organizes work to meet deadlines and measures progress to achieve divisional goals and project objectives. Negotiates with vendors, internal stakeholders and consultants to ensure optimal resources are in place.
  • Ensure compliance of all recommendations, decisions and actions to regulatory requirements and within the framework of the Provincial Growth Plan, the City's Vision 2040, Official Plan, Transportation Master Plan, Secondary Plans, and any other relevant guiding documents. Communicate this information as needed with relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide direction and input to transportation demand modelling (e.g. EMME/2) and data analytics activities that support multimodal transportation planning decisionmaking through a range planning and design studies, and the development of data collection and management capabilities.
  • Provide input on behalf of the City on transportation planning projects by other jurisdictions (adjacent municipalities and regions, Region of Peel, Province of Ontario, Metrolinx). Attend and represent the City at committee meetings, OMB hearings, provincial workshops, public meetings, etc. on matters related to transportation planning.

EDUCATION:
  • Minimum university level degree in Urban & Regional planning and/or an Engineering (transportation) specialization

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:


  • 57 years experience in complex project management role, preferably in a community planning role in government

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:


  • 35 years supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred
  • Accreditation in Project Management (PMP, PMI) an asset
  • Good understanding of transportation modelling and growthrelated infrastructure requirements
  • Ability to use MS Office software and modelling software
  • Experience preparing and presenting reports to a diverse audience (politicians, agencies, public and staff)
