Reporting to the Manager, the Infection Prevention Control Professional assists in moving the hospital toward an ultra-safe environment, a centre of excellence for infection control, and providing patients with a safe care experience and staff members with a safe care environment.
The Infection Control Professional has the leadership role in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of infection control practices within the healthcare setting.
This role functions as a consultant, role model, investigator, educator, and researcher and is responsible for recommending and implementing strategies based on best practice standards that are effective in reducing the acquisition/transmission of pathogens amongst patients, staff, and the community.

Rate of Pay:
$46.46 to $58.07 per hour
Hours of Work: 22.5 hours per week
Duration:
Up to 12 months
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of an Undergraduate degree in a Health related Discipline
- Certification with the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) preferred (or a commitment to become certified within 3 years of entry into the profession of Infection Control if not currently certified)
- Minimum five (5) years of recent, related experience in a health care setting. Recent experience in Infection Prevention and Control preferred
- Advanced core knowledge related to specialty of microbiology and infection control (i.e. anatomy, physiology, sterilization procedures and aseptic technique)
- Advanced knowledge of policies and guidelines related to infection control
- Advanced ability to facilitate practice change
- Advanced ability to be selfmotivated, selfdirected, and resultsoriented
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and to work collaboratively as a team member
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Demonstrated flexibility with hours of work is necessary, as rotating oncall for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required
- Applicant may work at any LHSC site as deemed by Operational need
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Mission, Vision and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Immunization Requirements:
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
