Overview


The Machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by setting-up and operating manual machine tools while maintaining quality and safety standards.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials, machine and work orders for production.
  • Read and understand work orders, drawings and blueprints.
  • Determine product specifications and select appropriate tooling.
  • Setup, operate and monitor machines.
  • Perform routine maintenance; troubleshoot and call for repairs.
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts using precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform corrective actions on finished product as required.
  • Perform daily maintenance and cleaning of machine tools and work area.
  • Maintain inspection records and measuring tools.
  • Complete associated paperwork as required.
  • Provide training to new Machinists as required.

Qualifications

  • Completed or ongoing formal Machinist training.
- +5 years' experience with machine set-up and tooling.

  • Knowledge of metals: uses of metals, alloys and other materials.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Ability to measure parts with high level of accuracy using measuring instruments.
  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position including bending, twisting, kneeling and crouching.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Attentive to detail, organized and good time management.
  • Selfmotivated and flexible.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime.

Other Key Considerations

  • Lathing experience is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing industry is an asset.
  • Mechanicallyinclined/Hand and power tool experience is a strength.

Salary:
Wage ranges from $30-40 per hour, it shall commensurate with skills and experience.
