Position Summary:

The position of Health Care Aide will commit to incorporate our mission, vision, and our values, which are Compassion, Collaboration, Respect, Social Justice, Integrity and Stewardship, and uphold our ethical traditions as foundational aspects in all actions and decision-making.

As a member of the care team, the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides support to residents requiring End of Life Care, their family and visitors in an environment that enables choice, dignity, privacy and individuality.

Our residents in Hospice have a prognosis of days to months, and a comfort working with and caring for residents who are dying is essential.

An individual in this position assists with and provides residents with personal care, social support and is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team.

The position requires the ability to communicate in all forms (reading, writing, clear verbal articulation and active listening) to implement recommendations and develop plans and procedures in accordance with Covenant Care's protocol and also with applicable legislation.

Information learned and shared is extremely sensitive, and it is expected that the Health Care Aide maintains absolute confidentiality.

This position is responsible for providing resident care in a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, culture, spirituality, and have the flexibility to adjust workloads in a rapidly changing environment and assignments to meet the needs of our residents.

Ensuring service is provided in a manner reflective of Covenant Care's standards.

In accordance with Covenant Care's mission, vision, and values, this position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures.

Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident's end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.


Qualifications:

Minimum Grade 12 required
Completed recognized Health Care Aide Certificate
Proof of enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
2 experience working as a HCA
Experience in Hospice Palliative Care, comfortable working with residents at End of Life.
Completion of LEAP HCA - Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care certificate
Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment with an Interdisciplinary team
Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
Ability to speak French an asset
Computer skills an asset
This position requires you to be vaccinated against communicable diseases under Covenant Care's OHS policy
