Water Systems Operator - Edmonton, Canada - West Edmonton Mall
Description
The Water Systems Operator is responsible for water safety and quality in the Waterpark and Deep Sea Adventure by monitoring chemical levels, maintaining the filtration systems and chlorine gas systems, as well as assisting with the maintenance of the filtration systems in the Marine Life department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Knowing, understanding and following the Alberta Pool Standards, OH&S Policies and Procedures, Codes of Practice & Safe Work Practices.
- Maintaining the treatment systems and operating the filtering and chemical treatment process in a proactive manner to ensure that proper chemical levels are always within parameters of the Alberta Pool Standards.
- Performing all required checks on all pool equipment such as flow meters, filter beds, systems, and pumps to ensure that all equipment is operating within Alberta Pool Standards.
- Cleaning pump strainers, performing backwashes on all systems, degreasing and pressure washing filters, as well as changing filter media as necessary.
- Ensuring the safe delivery of chlorine gas to the required systems and changing chlorine tonner and cylinders in a proactive fashion.
- Monitoring inventory of pool chemicals or supplies & equipment and ensuring that all are ordered and received.
- Arranging servicing, repairs & replacement for equipment and assisting skilled tradespersons with the installation and repair of machinery.
- Performing multiple daily routine assessment rounds to check status of chemistry, water levels, and chemical tank levels and documenting such rounds.
- Ensuring all daily, weekly & monthly tasks are fully completed within your shift & with strong attention to detail.
- Ensuring all housekeeping is completed daily including cleaning of the filter rooms, pump rooms, chlorine rooms and shops & that cleaning supplies are stocked.
- Running errands as required.
- Maintaining accurate, fully detailed records on all tasks and occurrences throughout the workday.
- Fostering a positive and helpful attitude in dealing with coworkers, other departments, and outside contractors.
- Responding to all texts and calls incoming to the oncall phones as scheduled.
- Reviewing all Safe Work Practices & Job Hazard Assessments annually.
- Performing all tasks completely and properly according to procedures.
- Maintaining impeccable communication with other Water Systems Operators, Supervisors & other departments in all aspects of daily operation.
- Assisting in performing Marine Life filtration maintenance tasks as required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pool Operator level (1) or level (2) certification.
- A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years' experience in the water filtration field or industry.
- Applicants must be comfortable working in close proximity to animals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, ability to work at heights, strong attention to detail and great problemsolving skills.
Terms of Employment:
- Fulltime and parttime positions available. This position requires a flexible work schedule including weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
