About the college:
Toronto Business College, established in 2009, is collaborating with a community college in order to provide top quality program delivery to international students.
Position Summary:
The incumbent will provide a range of co-op and employment services to prepare international students for employment, their co-op term, and post-graduate career success.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee a large number of students requiring coop placement and employmentrelated assistance
- Identify barriers to employment for international students and provide assistance with resolving those barriers
- Work with team to match students with employment opportunities
- Assist students with mock interviews, workshops and presentations for CV assistance, maintaining online profiles, interview skills, and more as needed
- Coordinate job fairs, or recruitment days, and networking events both on and off campus
- Monitor student progress and offer support to reach coop goals; motivate and empower students through meetings, workshops, and sessions
- As job opportunities are posted on job board, help ensure students are
- Participate in community events, job fairs and other activities to inform employers about the college's coop program and potential benefits to their organization
- Make appropriate referrals to job vacancies, advise on skill level and experience required and provide other relevant occupational information
- Support and monitor students as they progress through their coop placements
- Maintain accurate case documentation and follow up with students at regular intervals to assess progress and record outcomes
- Adhere to various college policies and guidelines
- Collaborate with other staff to provide a seamless continuum of coop and employment services
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills, and Educational Requirements:
- Completion of a postsecondary education in social services, employment/career counselling, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Minimum of 1 year related experience
- Proven experience handling a large caseload and working with international students a definite asset
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office Suite; previous experience using a database program
- Effective research skills utilizing Internet
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, both oral and written
- Strong attention to detail and followup
- Able to work independently with mínimal supervision and to take initiative
- Ability to take direction and flexibility to quickly implement ongoing program changes and coop requirements
- Must have a valid Ontario drivers' license and uptodate vehicle insurance for occasional travel outside the office
- Sound understanding of employmentrelated legislation and issues
- Knowledge of local labour market, the impact of COVID19 on the labour market, workplace practices and job search strategies
- Knowledge on online communication platforms, techniques and tools (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Must possess a positive attitude, ability to work with a diverse and international student body, and strong work ethic
- Current and clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening
Additional Notes:
- Travel outside the office is sometimes required
- Some evening and weekend work may be required
