EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


  • M.S.W. or other qualifications deemed suitable by the Executive Director
  • A minimum of five years' experience in Child Welfare
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability along with sound professional practice.

Position Summary:

The Child Welfare Manager - FVST plans and directs the delivery of child welfare services
- primarily family visits and support program services including supervision of staff providing these child welfare services. The Manager is responsible for providing leadership for those staff and ensuring uniformity of the Agency's mission, vision, values, and goals. The Manager is also responsible for assessing risks identified in child welfare service delivery, and ensuring consistency of standards so that all programs and service express the policies of the Agency and are within the legal framework of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act. To do so the Manager must be knowledgeable about the relevant sections of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Regulations, and Ministry standards. The Manager will play an active role in disseminating information and decisions of management to direct service staff and vice versa.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Manager of Child Welfare Services:

  • Be responsible for the leadership and management of staff and services in the area assigned, including oversight of child welfare staff in carrying out their functions to ensure effective delivery of service to the clients of the Agency.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to enhance relationship building, promote team development and lead the team through any change processes.
  • Facilitate case conferences to discuss child protection services and use initiative and creativity to develop new ideas to continually improve services to families and children.
  • Recognize and develop the job knowledge, capabilities, and contributions of staff under their direction.
  • Provide regular supervision and ensure the development of each staff members' skills, through the evaluation of staff and the identification of learning goals for each staff member including providing performance management support when necessary.
  • Be responsible for the prompt assignment of workload distribution to ensure mínimal disruption of service delivery for families.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the orientation of new staff members to their role as an employee of Child and Family Services of Grand Erie; to Agency policy and procedures relevant to their employment.
  • Regularly review work completed by service staff including documentation, to ensure tasks are completed promptly and in accordance with the legislative requirements, Ministry standards and Agency policies and procedures.
  • Provide reports and statistics as requested.
  • Assist with the development and updating of policies and procedures as requested.
  • Manage complaints from families and collaterals in accordance with the Agency's complaint procedure.

  • Recommend program changes, personnel assignments, and policy changes where indicated by service needs.
  • Represent the Agency in the community when requested. Ensure the Senior Leadership team is informed of developments in the community, which may have important implications for the Agency.
  • Ensure that the policies and procedures of the Agency are carried out and that the total Agency workload is serviced.
  • Manage and monitor the use of team members' entitlement time in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
  • Inform the Director of Service of any compliance issues in the delivery of Child Welfare service and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure team collaboration and cohesion with other agency departments including full and accurate information is provided to the Legal Department with respect to cases which are to be presented in court in due time f
