Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Night Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team. The Night RPN will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients during the night shift.


Accountability:


Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse demonstrates competency by using acquired knowledge and skills to make appropriate clinical decisions in the provision of care to residents in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and standards of Manotick Place Retirement Community.

The RN/RPN remains accountable for the nursing actions delegated to or by, him/her.


Qualifications:


Possesses active Certificate of Competence as a Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Relevant experience in geriatric care, good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.


Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, participates in assessing the needs of individual residents and organizes for the provision of care to promote maximum resident independence by:

  • Carries out planned assignments for effective resident care, taking into account to physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of the individual.
  • Participates in the development of and implementation of a resident care plan that supports independence.
  • Coordinates, supervises and provides job guidance to Health Care Aides.
  • Supervises the care given by Health Care Aides in accordance with the planned assignments and the resident care plans.
  • Assists Health Care Aides provide resident care by monitoring the completion of daily duty assignments (per shift) as required.
  • Distributes medications and provides treatment to residents in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all drugs, medication cart and nursing solutions.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the pharmacy, keeping them aware of the changes in medications, resident's status (ie. discharge, demise, hospitalization)
  • Completes admission of new residents.
  • Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed.
  • Completes all required charting.
  • Responsible for giving shift change report and worksheet as needed.
  • Responsible for uptodate information and accuracy ; emergency transfer sheets.
  • Reports all incidents and changes in residents' status to the DOC and to the next shift.
  • Completes Incident Reports on residents and staff.
  • Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with staff, residents, families, physicians and other departments. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
  • Assists with the implementation and enforcement of all policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to read unit manuals, DOC communication book, memos and remain current with the same.
  • Assists in maintaining a neat, clean and safe environment for residents and personnel.
  • Complies with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards and reporting incident.
  • Adheres to Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of Quality Care.
  • Participates in fire drills. In the absence of management, the charge nurse will coordinate the fire procedure.
  • Attends and administers inservice education.
  • Assists the DOC in evaluating the performance of the Health Care Aides.
  • Informs the DOC of any Health Care Aides' performance problems in a timely manner.
  • Trains and orientates new RN / RPN.
  • Works as a team member at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the DOC.
  • Maintain medical equipment.

Provides emergency triage:
initiating 911 call or emergency treatment in conjunction with doctor.
